It’s that time of year again, it’s time to wrap up school. Tucker has begun the wrap up process, and came home with a progress report the other day. I laughed and laughed until I cried when I read some of the things that were written down that he had said, including:
ZOO ANIMALS: Snake, lizards and buffalos (those are the animals I go to see at the zoo…buffalo?)
FARM ANIMALS: Worm, duck, cow ( I love that the first thing he lists is a worm)
DAD’S NAME: TOF
I guess it can be said at this house, we don’t think inside the box! After laughing so hard I cried, I then began to really cry when I read this sweet note from his teacher…
Why? although it was sweet words, it was also the realization that my first child is growing up and growing up well. I am proud of the person he is now, and the person he is developing to be. I love him deeply, and I love being his mother….
I am grateful for a teacher who remind me of my love and respect for my children as they grow up out of my sight in her classroom.

I am always amazed at the creativity that just flows from my children…they inspire me and make me want to create! Case and Point–last week after cutting fleece for patterns for hats and booties for humanitarian with Diane, Tucker was THRILLED about the scraps that were left over.
Here is what happened with the fleece that couldn’t be used…(I promised Tucker I would post one picture for each animal)
This is my favorite…SUPER MONKEY!!
I know it may look like a lot of pictures, but believe me, each of his stuffed animals have a few different outfits.
It’s amazing what can be made with scraps that were going to be thrown away.
With my calling, one of the things that I am learning to Love and Love and Love some more is the Humanitarian Work. My friend Diane and I have been tying quilts together, and have talked many a time about the true blessings of humanitarian work, while we tie these quilts. And I can honestly say that I have always loved humanitarian work, but participated in it in a limited way. Now, I can say this is not true anymore. I feel like a blesses woman to be one of the ‘gathers’ in the ward for donations to our stake humanitarian project, as well as a donor.
As people drop off their projects (whether it’s crocheted booties, or hats, or flannel blankets, or school bags) I am at awe with these women who use their talents to bless the lives of others. As we say around here I have truely caught the ‘humanitarian bug’.
Everytime I look in the corner of my office, (which is currently filled with fleece blankets that need to be serged, but is often full of other humanitarian projects),
I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude and peace. I encourage you all to participate in whatever way you can. It doesn’t take much, but knowing that I can better others lives with such a simple thing, is a wondeful thing. I can’t even begin to describe it, so get involved you’ll thank me, I promise!
So my sweetboy has a few passions in life, and one that I have heard more about in the recent weeks is WATERMELON!
We found this cute one at Maceys, and couldn’t pass it up as Truman cried, Can we please get a watermelon? Usually I hear this cry down the candy aisle, so I was happy it was a healthy snack, and couldn’t pass it up considering the following:
A couple of months ago when we bought our seeds to plant in our garden, when it came time to plant he asked “Where’s the Watermelon?”
We didn’t buy watermelon seeds….and still every time we water our seedlings, Tru still asks which one is ‘my watermelon’ plant?
Finally, we had him call his Grandpa Phillips, who promised to plant him some up at the river. (Which are the best kind anyway!)
Here he is eating it up–look at the joy on his face:
And let me assure you, as soon as we walked into the door from the store, we had to cut it open, and he sat and ate, and ate, and ate….
Yep, he ate all of those pieces, and made sure to eat the white part of the melon, which he scraped out with his swordfish knife (He doesn’t really like the white part, but eats it because his dad eats the white part. Therefore he eats the white part.)
Needless to say, I thought he would have had his fill. But as soon as we finished eating that melon, he enquired when ours watermelon seeds were going to grow so we can eat it. Here we go again….
🙂
My Parents…
So as I mentioned in the previous post, it was recently my parents birthday. The older I get and the more that I am a parent to my active two children, I often reflect on my time as a child.
I always tell Toph that I was the angelic little child who never caused any problems, and the energetic craziness that seems to leak through our boys pores is purely from him — I know this is not true, and I am sure I put my parents through a large portion of craziness. I am sure that they have quite a few gray hairs from the crazy ideas I had, adventures I went on, but they still love me and I know this. So this is a small reason that
i heart my DAD
and i heart my MOM
I recently read or was told (I can’t remember which) that one of the best gifts you can give your parents is being a good parent yourself. I am not claiming to be a good or perfect parent, but I am doing my best and trying to give that gift to them, as well as to my children. I also know that so much of parenting I learned from them, I am blessed to have parents who love me and are a part of my life, and my children’s life.
I am grateful for them, and the wonderful things they have taught me and still teach me.
Happy belated birthday dad and mom!
I love you!
It seems the birthday season is upon us. On my side of the family we have recently celebrated the four birthdays during this past month, Mom, Dad, Ikey and Belle. Here are some pictures of the celebration party!

I think I love birthdays so much, because it is a time to be together as a family and celebrate the individuals who make up our family. I feel so blessed to be part of this group of people whom I love so much.
My Cousin (Is there a term for your husbands cousin, who is a cousin you love, so do you still call them your cousin, but there not really your cousin? Hmmm….cousin in law maybe?) Well, she tagged me (http://hammondshamsterwheel.blogspot.com/), so now I have spent a week thinking of 7 unique and interesting things about my self, and now am recruiting my hubby, Toph, to help me with the process!
Here are the rules: 1) Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog 2) Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird. 3) Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs. 4) Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
1. Everyone knows I like Cheese, but they don’t know what kind of cheese I love….Cheddar Cheese. Tilamook is my favorite brand, but it is also UBER expensive, so any type of cheddar will do 🙂
2. I enjoy a good game of Mario Brothers, the old school version.
3. I LOVE Fabric. My sister gave me a fabric catalog the other day, and I decided if I was rich, I would spend money on fabric, because I love to create things, and trust me don’t click on that link because that material is ADDICTING…
4. I enjoy a good read, and I have read all of the children’s books in our home, as well as the most of the other books (except Toph’s Textbooks–boring!)
5. I have never gotten a driving ticket.
6. I enjoy cooking, but love meals that are quick and easy to make, and oh yeah, cheese always makes it better.
7. I’ve recently rediscovered Gelato, yep, still love that stuff. It’s a good thing this place is far away from me, or else we might be there daily, ’cause honestly, this is the best I’ve tasted since Italia!
So I tag Emily, Cat, Becca, Lexie, Kim, Jensa, Abs can’t wait to read yours!
What a busy day we had on Saturday….I love a productive day, but I love being with family even more, lucky for me, my day included both! We began by building the joists for the treehouse,
When we got a phone call from the Phillips saying they were on there way down to supervise the situation. Boy were we grateful to see them.
They showed us the right way to box in the tree,
Played with they boys
Fixed the truck (apparently it just needed a little bit of gas in the carberator, was all it needed, who knew?)
Mom and I got the whole mess of our future stream/fountain, all clean and virutally leaf free,
Got some lumber for the flooring of the treehouse,
while Toph and I purchased it, The Grandparents and Cat stopped by the lawn mower department
Toph learned how to trim the apple tree (it’s not done yet…)
They boys went and got their hair cut, and then got to take a trip for some new toys (and shirts) with Aunt Cat.
Lastly they read robot stories, and played with Grandma and Grandpa, (you can also see by the boys dirty faces, we had spagetti for dinner 🙂 )
(Can you tell you these boys are brothers? They look exactly the same after their haircuts)
It was a busy day full of good people.
Thanks for all your help Cat, Grandma and Grandpa!
So did you know that during this last week was Earth Day and Arbor Day?
I must admit, I didn’t realize Earth Day was on Tuesday, we actually went to the dump, to take some trash there. Woops. Not a good way to celebrate Earth Day!
But we did celebrate Arbor Day at Red Butte Gardens. Can I tell you, I love this place? Especially the Children’s Garden. We spent a majority of our time there…
Fish Pond (Truman especially like it here)
This is why I rarely try to get posed shots
I usually just follow them around and take pictures, like in this hut
or on a lizard
Or in the dragons mouth
The staining Sand Pit
Just love this pic
After we’d been there a while, Amy, Ry and Tiff, Cousin Belle and Ike came to meet us there too!
Belle and Tuck on Bridge
Looking at the fish together, people used to always think they were twins, you can kind of see it in this picture,

A beautiful day to be outside and enjoying God’s creations.
So Wednesday afternoon, my good friend Jamie, calls me up informs me some animals from Sea World are at her BANK (Yeah, random I know), and so we are off for an adventure I am sure my kids will not forget.
When we arrived, they were having a show, and explained about the animals,
The boys watched with such interest!
Kookaburra:
Simon:
Lemur:
Look at those teeth! I think she said they belonged to a whale:
Then we waited in line for a few minutes, in line, headed upstairs,
and got a hands on experience with many of the animals.
Petting Simon:
Pac Man Frog, that Tucker really loved:
If you look in the background, you can see the penguin. I am not sure if this was penny or pete, but either way, the boys stood and watched it for a while. (You couldn’t pet it, but they boys didn’t mind. They were VERY close to a penguin!)
Ever since the PBS Kids Show Big, Big World, the boys care about sloths. Here is one we met:
Petting a tortoise:
They also gave them kids there own shamu stuffed whale.
All the boys watching the show with their stuffed animals:
Truman was fascinated by the presentation–Love the expression on his face:
Since Wednesday, we have watched Utube clips of Shamu, Tucker and Truman have checked out books from the library about animals that live in the sea, especially whales, and have colored many pictures of dolphins and sea life.
I love exposing my children to new things!
