Robot Obsession….

We have one obsession at our home right now, ROBOTS. I thought that I had better document ALL facets of it, so that we can remember this fun time in our lives.
I don’t know when this started, or with what, but Robotics has been in my boys blood for a while. I can’t and won’t be able to remember them all, but here are a few of the many robots in our lives:

Buddy. Here is the first Robot, built out of junk. Tucker, Andy and Truman built it last year. They were quite disappointed when it didn’t come to life, when they put all of the pieces together.
buddy2.jpgbuddy1.jpg

Tucks Robot Blanket: (see previous post) Tucker has Vision, he designed it and helped me make it in one afternoon.

Dancing like a Robot: After just pretending to be robots, Dad found this awesome Robot Music, and Tucker started to dance.
dancing.mov

Robot Notebooks:
We have 3 notebooks full of Robot Artwork, the pages are full front and back, of robots and landscapes drawn by Tucker
notebook.jpg

Robot Stories: This project has many phases. 1. Print Robot picture off the internet. 2.Color the Pictures. 3.Cut out the pictures. 4.Paste the picture to a plain piece of paper. 5. Staple this paper to a blank paper. 6. Dictate a story about this robot to mother. 7. Three hole punch this paper 8. Place in notebook.
These stories are so funny, and contrived in Tuckers head.

Wall-e: The new pixar Movie, about a robot. We are DEFINITELY going to the theater to see this one. (the boys loved to watch the trailor, and move pillows around like they are cubes of junk..They even talk in the Wall-e robot voice.

Playing with Andy’s Robot Toys: Andy got an awesome robot building toy for his birthday, he brought it to play with at our house one afternoon. Of course, my boys loved it!

Robot Museum: Tucker set up all of his robot stuff one day, and made a museum and filmed it himself. (We are also in the process of going to the Children Museum in SLC that has a Robot interactive exhibit right now, my boys are pumped about this!) Here are a few he took pics of and a video that he made. Warning, the video makes me motion sick…watch at your own risk!

Robot toys.Daily, a robot of one kind or another is played with. We have a few Robots, most of all have been played with so much, that they are broken. Here is a picture of the robots playing soccer on our mini-pool table.
soccer.jpg

Robot books: Whether it is getting them from the Library or the DI, we love to find, read and re-read books about robots. We have 2 favorites right now: “Ricky Ricotta and his Pet Robot” and this one.
robotbook.jpg

Robot Costumes: of course we can’t forget these.

Robot Squares Tucker wants to make another blanket, we are making it one square at a time.
square.jpg

Legos: Tucker builds with Legos, makes robots, then places each one in a sandwich bag, then places it on my ledge. The sad part is, that this seems normal, and don’t realize they are there until guests ask about them. legoledge.jpg

How I love my little Robot Lovers.

Bagging, Playing, Bagging, Raking, Bagging

So, as much as I hate raking and bagging leaves, I sure do love watching my children play in them.
boys.jpg
It almost makes it worth having so many leaves, almost.
I count myself as a blessed woman to have 2 happy and healthy boys,
tuck.jpg
and seeing them running and jumping into piles of leaves, seeing their glowing faces, in pure joy, brightened my Saturday, and made the task of bagging 21 bags of leaves, a little more enjoyable.
sillytru.jpg
As predicted, we had a gargantuan pile of leaves.
surroundtru.jpg
surroundtuck.jpg
We bagged most of them, but left some out for the boys to play in. And play they did.
They brought over the lawn chairs, and jumped in…
trujump.gif
tuckjump.gif
and I got a few shots of the boys, I know they have dirty faces,
tru.gif
bigboy.jpg
and now I started to look at them, I almost wish I had cleaned them, but then I began to think. That is not how we were. We caught them in the action of being boys. That was how our day was. A working day, out raking the leaves.
My boys:

The fam:
family.gif
The boys “helped” alot, including hauling the bagged leaves to the side of our house:
hauler.jpg
Making Disneyland rides:
disney.jpg
And playing on their new “Playground”
bagsall.jpg
bagstuck.jpg
(For my own purposes the bag count: 16 previous bags, and the 21 from this Saturday, that puts our total at 37 Bags)
As you can see, we spent the majority of the day with the leaves.
It has been a long time since all 4 of us have been in the same place for that long of a time. So maybe, instead of looking at these leaves as a burden, I need to look at them as a blessing. Something that has brought our family closer together.
Maybe that can be a goal for next year, cause man. I still hate those leaves.

the Happiest of Halloween!

(This is a Novel…sorry, I should have broken it up a bit!)
Anyone who knows Tucker and Truman will not be surprised by this post, for two reasons.
First, Tucker has one obsession, that has stayed true for months now. It is Robots, so naturally, when our neighbor found a picture of a robot costume, Tucker talked of nothing else.
Secondly, anyone who has been around my boys for more than a minute, knows that Truman follows and idolizes Tucker. So again, naturally, if Tucker is being a robot, he MUST be one too.
With the decision made, we started to make the costumes (because there are not to many robot costumes out there for the purchasing). The boys helped make them, and had a great time doing it.
robot2.jpg
robot1.jpg
robot3.jpg
They talked and talked and talked about them, to anyone who would listen.
We were ready, as our first costume party approaches.
When it is finally time to put them all together and leave out the door, they have decide that they HATE the costumes, and don’t want to wear them. (Important note, these strong feelings of hate are coming mostly from Tucker, but of course, Truman emulates everything his brother does, so he also hates the costume.)
After alot of talking and cohersion, Topher convinces them they should wear them at least one time, and with a sigh of relief, we’re off to the great grandparents and then the party with our two little robots.
ggreenes1.jpgggreenes2.jpg
trumanrobots.jpg
tuckerrobot.jpg
As soon as we arrive at the party, we have our picture taken
family.jpg
(I am a robot Medic, and Toph is a nerdy robot engineer)
After the picture, the boys promptly ask to take off the costumes.
They have not been worn since. So I am posting these pictures here, so my boys can remember how much their parents love them, and hopefully look back someday, and wish they could still fit into those costumes! Because honestly, they are wicked awesome!
On a brighter note, the day before Halloween, Tucker has his school program, which he actually sung at! I was so proud of him, he usually just yawns, and sings occasionally. Before it started they announced that there was going to be a spook allley, and for the first few minutes, and after every song, he would look at me, and ask if it was time to go to the spook alley. During the program, he did have one or two yawns, but mostly he sang! He was the best Red Ranger I have ever seen, and Tru had to dress up as a frog.
tuckerranger.jpg
Here are a few video clips, Truman was climbing on and off my lap as I was filming, and I have never be known to do things straight so you still might get a little sea sick 🙂 Watch at your own risk. (you need quicktime video to watch)

That last one is the funniest. In case you can’t hear, he says, “Now its time to go to the Spook Alley for sure!”
grams.jpg
Grams and Issac came for the performance, and stayed for the carnival. (we only got this blurry pic)
snack.jpg
A great time was had by all.
Halloween Came, and surprise, we had a change of costume again. It is a hard thing to make up your mind when you are 4 and 2 years old! Tucker decided to be a dragon
dragon.jpg
(the costume by the way that was almost too small last year, was way too small this year)
ranger.jpg
and Truman decided to be a power ranger.

We had a great time trick or treating at the park with Hinckley,
park.jpg
then later that evening around the ward with Aunt Amy
trickortreaters.jpg
amy.jpg
While Toph stayed at home to pass out the candy.
We all are now on Sugar overload, and having happy memories of our indecisive trick or treaters.

A great year of Halloween has now to come to a close.

Favorite Fall Festivities

So a few Sundays ago, we went to my parents to carve pumpkins with my family.
It was such a fun night, we not only carved pumpkins, but also made sugar cookies, caramel apples, and pumpkin seeds.
This night embraced so many of my favorite fall activities, plus what could be better than doing it together with family?

Carving the Pumpkins:
(side note, I let the boys choose out any pumpkin they wanted, Tucker choose out a Mammoth 29 pounder. Seriously, it almost weighed as much as he did. Tucker carved his into a Robot, and Truman wanted one with a tongue sticking out. Funny kids)

Leaves, Leaves, Go Away, Don’t Come Again Another Day.

leaves11.jpg
I am keeping a tally of how many bags of leaves I rake up from our 14 Trees in our yard.
Previous Total: 4
Last Monday: 2 Bags
Last Friday: 2 Bags
Last Saturday: 6 Bags
Plus our neighborhood kids were sad that they didn’t have any leaves to play in, so they asked if they could have so of mine. It would be greedy not to share right? So they came and bagged up like 2 big bags to take back to their yards. I am sure their parents LOVE us 😉
So that puts the grand total to…
16 Bags

(and don’t you worry, we still have fully leaved trees in our backyard, so we are not even half way done yet.)

Tagged…

I was tagged by my Sister-in-Law Lexie…
For those of you who don’t know how this works, here are the rules:
A: Each player lists 6 facts/habits about themselves.
B: At the end of the post, the player then tags people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog for these rules.

So here goes…..

1. Right now my favorite time in the week is Wednesday Afternoons. By this point in the week, our family (and the house) have recovered from the weekend. The next weekend is not here yet, and on Wednesday it is just me and my 2 boys together working on whatever crazy projects we can come up with. I love that afternoon and look forward to just “being a mom” on those days all week.

2.Food: I am a Cheese Addict. Currently Tillamook cheese is my favorite, I could eat cheese all day long, and would IF I didn’t have other mouths that I was responsible for feeding. I also have a strong aversion to Tuna Fish and occasionally Chinese food, but other than that I am not a picky eater, but do love things with cheese on top.

3. I am slowly becoming a frugal, coupon freak. I have a hard time paying full price for things, and try to buy things only when they are on sale AND with a coupon. Can you say C-R-A-Z-Y? (at least I know it, and can admit to it, right?)

4. I would love someday to go and live overseas with my hubby and children, as long as I knew it was not going to be a permanent thing. I love learning about other cultures, and immersing yourselves completely within it, and feel like it would be an awesome thing for our family to experience together.

5. I love home projects, and doing things with my hands. If I inherited a large sum of money, I would love to just re-do things, by myself, without worrying about the costs (sometime in my projects, it ends up just being cheaper to buy a new thing, instead of re-doing an old thing… I love doing it, but the cost also plays a role!)

6. I hate growing up. My mom used to always say that I had “Peter-Pan Syndrome”. I still hate growing up. The best point of life is always right now. I do know that life gets “better” the older we get, but that “better” always comes with the price of having more responsibility and the death of loved ones. Of course, I would not trade any of my responsibilities for the world, but I would like to wisk off to never-never land every once in a while to be able to freeze time and enjoy my family a little more.

I am tagging…. Toph (you know you want to do it) JoAnna, and Cat. (you can put them on your myspace page if you want to!) 🙂

Starting them off while they are young…

As parents, we try to instill in our children the most important things while they are young.
I am beginning now, with something I loved from an early age.
Pies.
The story begins with my mother. She worked at Marie Callender’s Restaurant to support herself through college, and I believe my mom learned there and then the goodness of their pies.
We had Marie Callendar’s pies, to celebrate many family events in my growing years. Birthdays, Thanksgiving, I can remember them often, in their little cardboard boxes.
I love them, and when Toph surprised me with my own pie the other day, as tempting as it was to eat the whole thing by myself, I resisted.
I would like to think it is because I am starting my boys off right while they are young.
…But it just might be that if I ate that entire pie I will gain 10 pounds.
Either way, I think it is a good call.

Ikea’n it.

So one of my new favorite places to go is Ikea.
It is really great. I love to just walk around and look at the showroom and get ideas, and just see there stuff.
So when Amy called me up, suggested that we all meet up, I was pumped.
Amy was babysitting a little boy named Conrad, and so we were evenly spread out. My mom, Amy and Me, with 3 kids. We thought we had pretty good odds. Three on Three.
We met up, and after some browsing, my boys got hungry, so we got a bite to eat. I love their kid friendly restaurant.
e ladies sat at a counter by them. (picture courtesty of Tuck)
ikea1.jpg
and the boys sat at a little table with Conrad,
ikea2.jpg
ikea3.jpg
That is until Conrad became a running escape artist.
Like I said our odds were pretty good as long as Conrad didn’t start to run. When he did, he gave Amy a run for her money. He was fast and when Ikea was full of people, a little kid can get lost easy. But he didn’t because Amy was just as fast.
We had a great time, and after a great weekend with the Huffs and my Momma and Amy, I remembered how much I enjoy living close to family.

Pajamas and JoAnnas

Conference weekend is always a wonderful time, a time to hang out in your Pajamas, eat candy, and get instruction on how to better your life.
It is even more wonderful when your sister in law named JoAnna comes to visit!
jo.jpg
We loved having JoAnna in our home, and we did a whole lot of eating: conference candy, brownie Sundays, Ham and Potatoes, and don’t forget Conference Omelets ala Toph (a Phillips Fam Tradition):

And Tru and Jo played the song from Cars: “Your in my Highway” (really “Life is a Highway”) on the piano.

(Truman says you play it best Jo)
We love you Jo, thanks for coming to visit!

Field Trip to Hee-Haws Farm

Oh, oh, oh. On Thursday what a grand time we had at Hee-Haws farm.
Very stressful, but incredibly fun.
Tuckers School had a field trip to Hee-Haws Farm. Since the field trip had been scheduled on a Thursday (not a regular school day) It was a parent attend field trip, meaning that the Parent had to attend if they wanted their child to come. No Problem for us.
So off Truman, Tuck, Andy and I went. Like I said, we had a great time, although I didn’t realize how hard it is to keep track of 3 children in a busy place, that is what made it so stressful!
Tucker being silly while we waited for the class to arrive:

There was a 30-Foot Hay Slide that they Boys LOVED.
Here is my friend Heidi and 2 of her kids:

Here is Diana with her kids:
slide2.jpg
The boys getting ready to climb up the huge haybales to go down (I didn’t think of giving someone else my camera to take a picture of me and the boys going down…oh well):
slide3.jpg
This is Leroy. He doesn’t look Huge, but he was HUGE. While we were watching him, he ate an entire pumpkin. I think they said he weighed like 1,400 pounds. I don’t remember exactly how much, but it was alot, because he was a Gigantic pig. He was actually really good too. When the instructors fed him a pumpkin he got up and moved to the other side of the pen, ate it, then walked around and sniffed all the kids with his snout. Most pigs I see that size are pretty stationary.

Feeding the Goats:

Hee-Haw instructor telling the class about how chickens lay different color eggs (there was one that was one that was bright blue):

Looking at the Turkeys:

On the Hay Ride (there were like 100 moms and kids in this wagon, we were packed on their pretty good. Hence the close ups):
hayride.jpg
They got to pick a pumpkin out of the pumpkin patch (which was quite large). We walked past many a good looking orange pumpkins to find these green ones that were just the perfect ones:
pumpkinpatch.jpg
At the end of the day, Tucker and Truman wanted their picture taken here. I couldn’t get them to look at the camera though. Oh well. Choose your battles.
pumpkin-chart.jpg
How much fun, I love fall time because we get to do fun things like this.
