Blessings Filling our Home…

With my calling, one of the things that I am learning to Love and Love and Love some more is the Humanitarian Work. My friend Diane and I have been tying quilts together, and have talked many a time about the true blessings of humanitarian work, while we tie these quilts. And I can honestly say that I have always loved humanitarian work, but participated in it in a limited way. Now, I can say this is not true anymore. I feel like a blesses woman to be one of the ‘gathers’ in the ward for donations to our stake humanitarian project, as well as a donor.
As people drop off their projects (whether it’s crocheted booties, or hats, or flannel blankets, or school bags) I am at awe with these women who use their talents to bless the lives of others. As we say around here I have truely caught the ‘humanitarian bug’.
Everytime I look in the corner of my office, (which is currently filled with fleece blankets that need to be serged, but is often full of other humanitarian projects),

I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude and peace. I encourage you all to participate in whatever way you can. It doesn’t take much, but knowing that I can better others lives with such a simple thing, is a wondeful thing. I can’t even begin to describe it, so get involved you’ll thank me, I promise!

Truman is in Love…

So my sweetboy has a few passions in life, and one that I have heard more about in the recent weeks is WATERMELON!
melon.jpg
We found this cute one at Maceys, and couldn’t pass it up as Truman cried, Can we please get a watermelon? Usually I hear this cry down the candy aisle, so I was happy it was a healthy snack, and couldn’t pass it up considering the following:
A couple of months ago when we bought our seeds to plant in our garden, when it came time to plant he asked “Where’s the Watermelon?”
We didn’t buy watermelon seeds….and still every time we water our seedlings, Tru still asks which one is ‘my watermelon’ plant?
Finally, we had him call his Grandpa Phillips, who promised to plant him some up at the river. (Which are the best kind anyway!)
Here he is eating it up–look at the joy on his face:

And let me assure you, as soon as we walked into the door from the store, we had to cut it open, and he sat and ate, and ate, and ate….

Yep, he ate all of those pieces, and made sure to eat the white part of the melon, which he scraped out with his swordfish knife (He doesn’t really like the white part, but eats it because his dad eats the white part. Therefore he eats the white part.)
Needless to say, I thought he would have had his fill. But as soon as we finished eating that melon, he enquired when ours watermelon seeds were going to grow so we can eat it. Here we go again….

My Parents…

So as I mentioned in the previous post, it was recently my parents birthday. The older I get and the more that I am a parent to my active two children, I often reflect on my time as a child.
I always tell Toph that I was the angelic little child who never caused any problems, and the energetic craziness that seems to leak through our boys pores is purely from him — I know this is not true, and I am sure I put my parents through a large portion of craziness. I am sure that they have quite a few gray hairs from the crazy ideas I had, adventures I went on, but they still love me and I know this. So this is a small reason that
i heart my DAD

and i heart my MOM

I recently read or was told (I can’t remember which) that one of the best gifts you can give your parents is being a good parent yourself. I am not claiming to be a good or perfect parent, but I am doing my best and trying to give that gift to them, as well as to my children. I also know that so much of parenting I learned from them, I am blessed to have parents who love me and are a part of my life, and my children’s life.
I am grateful for them, and the wonderful things they have taught me and still teach me.
Happy belated birthday dad and mom!
I love you!

I think I love birthdays so much, because it is a time to be together as a family and celebrate the individuals who make up our family. I feel so blessed to be part of this group of people whom I love so much.

Tag-ged.

My Cousin (Is there a term for your husbands cousin, who is a cousin you love, so do you still call them your cousin, but there not really your cousin? Hmmm….cousin in law maybe?) Well, she tagged me (http://hammondshamsterwheel.blogspot.com/), so now I have spent a week thinking of 7 unique and interesting things about my self, and now am recruiting my hubby, Toph, to help me with the process!

Here are the rules: 1) Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog 2) Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird. 3) Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs. 4) Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

1. Everyone knows I like Cheese, but they don’t know what kind of cheese I love….Cheddar Cheese. Tilamook is my favorite brand, but it is also UBER expensive, so any type of cheddar will do 🙂

2. I enjoy a good game of Mario Brothers, the old school version.

3. I LOVE Fabric. My sister gave me a fabric catalog the other day, and I decided if I was rich, I would spend money on fabric, because I love to create things, and trust me don’t click on that link because that material is ADDICTING…

4. I enjoy a good read, and I have read all of the children’s books in our home, as well as the most of the other books (except Toph’s Textbooks–boring!)

5. I have never gotten a driving ticket.

6. I enjoy cooking, but love meals that are quick and easy to make, and oh yeah, cheese always makes it better.

7. I’ve recently rediscovered Gelato, yep, still love that stuff. It’s a good thing this place is far away from me, or else we might be there daily, ’cause honestly, this is the best I’ve tasted since Italia!

So I tag Emily, Cat, Becca, Lexie, Kim, Jensa, Abs can’t wait to read yours!
