Presidents Day

Hurray for Presidents Day, and Hurray for family close enough to be together, and what better meeting place than Ikea?
Mom P., Cat, Emily, Becca, Micheal, Owen, Madalyn and Ava, met up with us, and I must admit, that one adult to every child seems like enough, but even so, it took all of us to keep track of everyone!
(By the way—somehow, every pictures of Michael came out Blurry. I guess he moves too quickly for me to get pictures of him 🙂 )

Afterwords, we enjoyed a good meal at Artic Circle, and let the children play in the playplace. (Thanks Cat for taking pictures…)

Good times!
We all did mention, that one thing that would have made it better would have been if all the grandkids, Soph, Nora, and Miles were there too!

Exerpts from Preschool

Everyday as Tuck comes home from school, we settle in for lunch, look in his back pack, review worksheets, and talk about the day, what letters he talked about at school, just wherever the conversation takes us.
Here is where the conversation led us today.
T: “Mom, there is a girl in my class, and everytime her tummy hurts, she has to go the hospital for 17 years.”
M: “17 Years? Wow, I didn’t know that!”
T: “Yeah, and not one of those little years, one of those BIG years.” (using his expressive reaching hands)
M: “Wow…”
later…
M: “Tucker it looks like you talked about Presidents today at school, I see a picture of…”(holding up a picture of Abe Lincoln)
T: “Yeah, he’s a a harry man who lived in a cabin”
later…
M: “Oh, look at this cool picture, did you make this?” (Holding up this picture)
logcabin.jpg
T: “Yeah, it’s the cabin where that harry man lived.”
M: “You mean Abraham Lincoln?”
T: “Yeah”
M: “What’s this in the window?”
T: Chewing on lunch, talking with his mouthful, “It’s wives”
M: “Wives?” (there are a few windows…)
T: chewing… “No mom, Y’s, we talked about that letter remember?”
M: “Oh, yeah, right…”
Apparently, someone has been studying her Mormon ancestors a little too much! 🙂

Boys and Their Toys

As some of you know, me and the ‘puter (Trus word for the computer) were having some issues.

But it wasn’t only me, my husband (who does freelance type work, in the evenings with that good old ‘puter) were having some issues too.

Since the ‘puter is a necessary part in that “work = money” equation, (I am sure having a happy blogging wife, is also part of that equation), we decided it was time for an upgrade (and it didn’t hurt, that we just got our tax refund either).

Anyone who knows Toph, knows that this is an exciting day in his life.
He loves computers, (Yes I married a geek), Hence the post, and the look in Tophs eyes, like a kid in a candy store…

We didn’t just get a ‘puter, we got a new member of the family 🙂

We are so excited to have him in our family, and can’t wait until we get to meet him in person.
And what is there not to love about having more boys in the family!?!?!
Congrats Brian and Lexie!

A time to get away.

So, this weekend, Topher and I spent 24 continuous hours together, enjoying adult conversations, eating DELICIOUS food and more DELICIOUS food, not cutting anyone children’s food, not changing diapers, sleep in, exercising, reading, watching TV, playing games, and mainly just being together. (Somehow though, I forgot to take pictures, I did haul our camera everywhere though!)
It was wonderful. Don’t get me wrong, I love my boys, but it is also nice to spend time with just their father.
We were looking forward to finishing up our time, by attending the temple, but were not able to, so instead we sat at the Christus.
It was beautiful. Beautiful to listen to the Sister Missionaries Testimonies, beautiful to sit and ponder life, and wonderful to look at the face of our Savior, and remember his love for me and my family.

Our kids partied with the Greene Crew, and Tucker and Truman have already asked when Belle and Ikey are coming to our house. It is nice to have places for our children to go, where they feel so comfortable and loved, so much so, that they didn’t even care when we came to pick them up.
Hurray for getting away, and hurray to coming home to happy children!

Please Advise….

rolls.jpg
Alright.
Calling all you Phillips Women.
I need your help.
Desperately–
As my husband and poor children can tell you….
No matter what I do, I can’t master Cinnamon Rolls.
I need lessons, and I need them soon.
I follow your directions, I have watched you make these SSOOO many times, that I should be able to do this, but no matter what they are nasty.
I don’t think my family can handle the delicious smell, with such horrific results.
Please advise, any help will be appreciated…. (or you could just send real delicious cinnamon rolls) 🙂

Pirate Treasure and Wall-e

We awoke a morning a few weeks ago to a treasure hunt, with notes stashed around the house, the boys were SO excited. We trapezed all over the house, finding all of the clues or “plues” as Tru called them, left by Dad.
The last one in the office, attached to some pirate swords, was a clue/note sending us here:

WALLE is awesome. I laughed hard at this one than I have at the previous previews, I am looking forward to seeing this show.

Pres. Hinckley’s Funeral..

sister1.jpg
sis2.jpg
As I am a bit back logged with my silly computer problems, I am just now posting this, I know I have already posted on our Prophets death, but as my sister and I were able to attend the funeral, it is something I will remember as a touching and special memory in my life. I want to record it. I had so many thoughts, and wonderful memories of our wonderful prophet, while I sat in the conference center, waiting for the funeral to begin, during and after. It was a time for me to remember, to grieve, and to cry, as well as accept the death of this wonderful man. But most of all it was peaceful.
I have an overwhelming sense of gratitude, and felt I really needed to record it.
hinckley_medium.jpg
I am grateful for his family, that they allowed us to share in this special time with them.
I am grateful for his smiling face. I will miss seeing it.
I am grateful for a good laugh, he so often brought to me.I will miss his sweet sense of humor.
I am grateful for a man who had so many responsibilities as a prophet, but yet was so aware of the members of this church, that he strove to make temple attendance more available to those around the world.
I am grateful for a man, who tried to break a cycle. A cycle of poverty, with the perpetual education fund.
I am grateful for a man who respected his parents, and morned the loss of a mother, and taught youth to respect, love and honor their parents.
I am grateful for a man who truely shaped me into the person I am. His words, his teachings, are in my core, a piece of who I am, so with the loss of him, I am of course, grieving a loss, a piece of myself. I will miss that piece.
I am also grateful for the peace that comes from the knowledge of the succession of our next prophet, President Monson.
We thank thee, O God, For our Prophets.

The Good Old Times…

When my siblings and I were little, we had the coolest big brother ever. Ryan.
All of us have pleasant memories of playing train station with him. I don’t know if that is what we called it or not, but we all remember it. We all love it, and him so much, that we still talk about ‘the train’.
Let me explain…or attempt to—
My parents house at the time had hardwood floors in the hallways that led to each of our rooms, as well as to the front door. Ryan used to get a big blanket out, and we would all sit on it (me and my two younger siblings).
Then he would proceed to pull us (on the blanket) to the different stations (our rooms and the front door). We played this ALL the time. That was it. Simple but overwhelmingly and extremely fun.
So last week when I saw the boys doing this:
table.jpg
pushing the pumpkins to work on the train (my upside-down coffee table), I couldn’t help but be filled with warm fuzzies and warm memories. How I love my boys, and how I love my Sibs: Eric, Amy and Ryan….
Nothing like the good times.

7 Years Ago Today….

We began an adventure, that has been one of the best I have ever experienced!
weddingone.jpg
Here are 7 facts about Christopher that I didn’t know about him 7 years ago.
1- Christophers favorite music to really sing and “belt out” is Church Music. He claims that it is because he knows all the words, but if you ever hear him singing, you’ll know that sometimes he can be a little creative in the lyrics section.
2-One of his favorite foods, that we still talk about often, is Italian Yogurt Gellato, who would have ever thunk it?
3-That being a father is one of his many talents, and something that just comes naturally to him. I have rarely seen him not know how to handle a situation, and if any thing, he is better at just laughing about it, and seeing the reality and humor in our children!
4-That he is okay not having a daughter named Madaline.
5-That his job and skill set for work will constantly be “in demand”, providing us with job security, as well as many moves. (Can you say 9 times in 7 years? CRAZY)
6- Speaking of talent, he was a “Grand Champion Pig Show-man”…now that is real talent! (he claims his pig was in a good mood that day, but we all know that daily walking your pig, does wonders for your “pig to human relationship”)
7- The last 7 years, have never had a dull moment, and Christophers’ Spontaneity, Thoughtfulness, and Creativity, always keep me on my toes, and I can’t wait to see what the next 7 years hold!
Happy Anniversary Hubba!
