Our little Chicken Whisperer….

It’s been along time since our last operation chicken update, and our chickens are totally full grown. And it turns out that when we thought we purchased 3 hens, we didn’t get 3 hens. We actually got 2 hens (named Goose and Clementine) and this…

Abner our rooster.

Now the situation gets trickier, because Truman and Abner are pals, Truman comes outside and Abner will run to him to say hello. Hop in his lap, and begin to follow him around. (Abner would not do this with anyone else)

But Abner, although beautiful, began to exhibit his rooster like tendencies and began to crow at 5.30 in the morning. Our poor neighbors began to hear him, as well as the fact that Abner began to become more aggressive with anyone who was not Truman. I could not have a rooster in our backyard that could hurt someone, as well as the fact I was tired of running outside in the early morning hours in my pajamas, and knocking him off the fence (that was the only way he’d stop crowing) and we soon had the dilemma, what do we do with Trumans friend and pet?

Luckily for us, a solution was found (besides the stockpot as soup) Becca and Mike knew of a home with other chickens, we delivered him and now we hear that Abner is quite happy there.

And Truman continues to be our little chicken whisperer, helping Clementine and Goose get back home when they escape. A hidden talent, that comes in handy often at this house.

What a good guy to give up his little friend. I think I would cry if it was me. A least you don’t have to worry about getting baby chicks anymore.

Sad you had to give him up, but I can’t help but laugh at the image of you running out in your pajamas at 5:30 and knocking a rooster off the fence. LOL
